How KI-AH-NA started

I’m Rebecca or ‘Bex’ - KI-AH-NA’s founder. KI-AH-NA is an old Irish word that represents Strength.

KI-AH-NA started on a cosmetics shop floor. I was asked to take over an appointment because I was trained in colour theory for all skin tones and my colleague was not. As I took the appointment, I saw the woman's embarrassment and wanted to use my skills to change this experience for her and other people.

I am applying my colour theory training to software so that everyone is included by design. The prototype we've created means that when you take a picture, it sees the colour in skin not on it.

We want to see everyone more accurately identified and confident they are included in technology that makes decisions about them.

I believe KI-AH-NA can be a catalyst for real societal equity.
